Psion may not be making any more netBooks and nobody seems to be selling them, but at eXpansys (UK) they have the 'netbook bundle' offer.

The url is http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=133334

For my money I got a Psion 64Mb netBook, PsionTeklogix battery, mains adapter which accepts a standard figure 8 power cable, and a 3 pin power cable. I can't quite work out why the power cable included is so obviously wrong, but...

The outer casing on the battery is light gray. Would this be from the 'Pro'?

Nothing else is included, no box, no PsiWin software or cable and no guides or manuals. Oh, no CF card with the OS image either.

Judging by the prices on eBay, this seemed to me a good deal. After all, it is a brand new machine.

A search on the eXpansys site for netbook brings up nothing, but add the word bundle and there you go.

Anyone out there wanting a replacement may want to consider the options, but I was very pleased to get the extra 32Mb! With a lot of programs loaded and browsing the web via a Buffalo WiFi card (Thanks, Martin for your article. I saved a lot by searching for the Buffalo card), I still have the thick end of 40Mb free.

I am a very happy psioneer. Also I wouldn't have got anywhere without the Pscience5 web site.

Rick

Thanks for the details on the netbook offer.

Confused I maybe being a bit dumb, but the netbook, does not come with any software at all.

As you now have one, does it give details of the build number or version??

Psion is the future Razz

When you first use a netBook, you load the OS onto it from a CF **. So it doesn't really have any meaning to ask about build numbers, etc. since you'd just download a copy of the latest version and load it on.

Martin
** - You don't have to do this again for as long as the nB retains charge in the main battery or backup battery.

Ah!

Ok, I thought you had to know the build version of the netbook itself to be able to run a wireless LAN card.

I have also noticed the articles on getting wireless with a netbook.

Cant wait to try this out, depending on whether I win this netbook on ebay.

There seems to be a few claiming to be 'brand new' Confused

Appreciate the feedback though

Ah, you didn't mention the wireless bit before...

Some of the earlier motherboards weren't capable of delivering quite as much power to the PCMCIA socket as the later versions. However, I don't believe this was a question of whether WiFi cards would work or not but rather a case of ensuring enough power for some GPRS cards (which need more power). Generally speaking you shouldn't have a problem from the netBook side of things - but you do need to choose your WiFi card reasonably carefully. As well as my own article, there's a lot of useful information here: http://www.epocfaq.co.uk/faqNetworks.htm

After using several PCMCIA WiFi cards, I'll go for the Orinoco Gold. There are various cards which work on the netBook and MBook/7Book.

Here are some I have tested myself and are all working great:
* Lucent Technologies Wavelan (No WEP)
* Compaq WL110 (="rebranded"Orinoco Gold)
* Orinoco Gold

Still have some cards for sale. Just send me an email!
