Martin,

I now have WiFi working on my mBook (Yee Ha!). I have also installed CesarFTP on my Windows machine, but where can I get a copy and license key for nFTP? It doesn't come in the mBook system image nor do I have it on any Psion CD, it's also not on your Neuon page.

I have tried using RMRftp but that doesn't seem to like Cesar, and reports that it is an "unknown filing system" (though Opera is happy to display the ftp site pages). Any help would be appreciated.

David

When you will transfer data to your PC or Psion with the help of FTP, then you need also a FTP Server.

Look here for the Psion FTP server

and

here for the PC FTP server.

Hi Kees,

I was following Martin's setup. I have the Cesar FTP server set up on the PC and was going to use either nFTP or RMRftp on the Psion.

Cesar seems to be working fine and, from the Psion, the Opera browser can see the FTP server files ok.

BUT RMRftp doesn't seem to understand the file structure presented by Cesar and, now that I have tried nFTP, that won't even connect to the server and fails looking up the host name. So it looks as though I am at a dead end. Unless ....

Hello David,

Wouldn't it be possible to copy nFtp from the newest netBook OS into yours?

Hi Richard,

Do you mean from the OS.img file? How do I go about that? I have the file, but how do I extract a specific application from the image?

Thanks Kees,

I'm not sure it will work, but one can only try and find out.
Please let us know how it works?

Thank you Richard and Krees, I have sent my email separately to Krees.

If it is possible to extract the nFTP application then I am happy to have a go at installing it.

I have already tried nFTP v 1.3 but that wouldn't connect to the FTP server. However that version was also shown as for the Revo, MX5 etc. with no mention of S7 or netBook so perhaps it needs a version that knows about PCMCIA cards???

Thank you both for your help.

David (pleased to be using the forum from a netBook running Opera)

Well, finally, I got nFTP to connect to my local web server. Thanks to Kees for his assistance, links to files etc. The problem was the user (me). I had copied the ftp address from the browser window and pasted it into the connection dialogue including the "ftp://" prefix. nFTP didn't like that. Such a stupid thing that I overlooked it again and again Sad

But now, I have another nFTP problem: nFTP abends during transfer at random points. It come up with "Program: nFTP, Reason Code: USER-EXEC, Reason number: 3. So far, I have tried the following:
- 3 different FTP servers on the PC
- My remote Internet Web Server
- Installing nFTP on either C and D drives
- closing all other running applications
- uninstalling and reinstalling nFTP

This abend is so frequent as to make nFTP unusable in practice. I have also not experienced any errors using RMRftp so find it hard to see that it can be anything to do with the server or the connection. So, I am down to nFTP its self being unstable or there is some confilict with another piece of software I have installed (though nFTP was the last thing installed).

If anyone has a clue as to what might be going on, I would be glad to hear Smile

David (only mildly frustrated ... at the moment)
