Wireless Internet

Good evening all.

I was in a cafe this week which boasts 'free wireless internet' outside and when I got in I asked for the network info, and thankfully the guy behind the counter knew it.

However, if he didn't I'm not sure what I would have done (except for possibly have to talk to the person I was with) because I can't scan for networks on my netBook. Can I?

I presume others here use their netBooks in such a fashion, do you have a trick up your sleeve I could use?

Or does some daring programmer a tad more versed in EPOC than me feel a challenge coming on?

I'm sure I'll be getting replies so I'll say thank you now.

I've occasionally seen available networks fly past when using NetStatRF, but not actually managed to log on without knowing the connection details. As you say, perhaps this would be a good idea (challenge?) for a brave programmer...

In my experience you don't usually need to know any network details for the nB to log on. Just leave the SSID info. blank and it'll latch on to the first (strongest?) one it finds. You usually have to get onto it via the browser - as there are often intro. pages to go through even with 'free' WiFi.

Wireless Internet

While this is true for most trains/cafes/hotels I know, myself and a few friends have trouble with college and uni networks where the only information available is "scan and connect: simple and quick connections!" and the local IT people go goggle-eyed at the term "Wireless Network" and run away when the word "settings" is spoken.

I'm sure everyone has run into the people that give useful IT personnel a bad name from time to time. Anyway, running slightly off topic...

Can I take it this means no one is aware of any such software?
