Hi folks,
Was just playing around today, and wondered why smooth fonts (as in PPC) couldn't be implemented on a NetBook. Of course they can; here's a demo:
(sorry; can't seem to get the tags to work...)
Try viewing it on a NetBook, rather than a normal monitor.
To do this, I used Sketch to smooth out the lines by using different coloured pixels, making use of the NetBook's pixel coloration of RED-GREEN-BLUE.
I think it looks nice; anyone want to see it built into applications? I could make fonts for HebRead using it (except I think it might take a while!).

Yes it's possible, you need the program Fonts by Sander van der Wal.

Hi Kees,
Thanks for that; I'm not sure, though, that Fonts can do this "out of the box" - I think one would need to design specific bitmapped fonts for it (or am I missing something?)
At any rate, I've had a play, and although this technique does make text nicer to read on a NetBook screen, I'm not convinced it makes enough of a difference to justify me redesigning (say) the HebRead fonts.
