Navigator & Z: drive QsJust loaded Navigator and like it lots - especially its built in ZIP file handling. Does anyone know how to get it to recognise PDB files as EBook files? The Shell recognises them OK, but not Navigator. I have tried PlOpen but that doesn't help (PlOpen doesn't seem to help with much, actually).
My second question regards the Z: drive. On the MBook it is RAM not ROM but the MBook insists that it is read only memory. I was going to swap a couple of files to remove the "My Schoolbook" stuff. but I cant delete the old files or copy the new ones. Anyone know of a workaround?

Hi David,
I don't think there's any easy way to get it to recognise PDB files - but I notice that it does recognise the EBM bookmarker files. So once you've opend the book once, you can re-open it from within Navigator.
On the MBook, 7Book, and netBook; yes the ROM is technically RAM - but the machines have been told to treat it as ROM (essentially it's protected RAM) - so you can't just paste replacement files into the Z: drive! The solution is to patch the OS.img file - which sounds scary but actually there are tools to do this. Have a look at the Xtep page under my Lost & Found collection. PsiROM can - with a bit of fiddling around - allow you to replace files. I've played with it and it works.
Cheers,
Martin

Thanks Martin,
I hadn't spotted that Navigator could recognise the bookmark files (I had hidden them away in a separate directory) but that is a good workaround. Thanks.
I had played around with Xtep a couple of months back. At that time, the program always crashed when I came to write the new ROM image, so I gave up. I seem to recall reading subsequently, that Xtep crashed if you tried to delete or insert more than one file at a time. Perhaps I should try again.

Hello David,
Now you use Navigator as file manager, try also View+ you get more possibilities and V+ is much faster.
If you need support, mail me.

Ah Kees, you really do want me to try View+ don't you?
Promise I will give it a try soon. What I like about Navigator is that even a 'dingbat' like me can understand how it works without reading the help file. I remember reading somewhere that View+ was a little impenetrable. Right now, I am having a great time getting my head around Real Maps - next stop GPS - then I'm off to Easter Camp (3,000 teenagers!). But, once I have recovered from all that, I'll have a look at View+. Promise...
