Compact Flash cards

Is there a limit to the amount of memory a Psion 5MX or Ericsson MC218 can see in a Compact Flash card? If so, what is that limit?

I've been told that some CF cards that work will in other gadgets will not work in the 5MX or MC218. Is this true? If so, why?

Thanks in advance,

Mycroft.

I believe that the largest CF card an EPOC machine can natively is 2GB. There are ways around this however - for example it's possible to partition a CF card into 4 partitions, each of which would be recognised by the Psion as a drive (e.g. drives d:, e:, f:, and g: on a 5mx). Hence in theory it would be possible to fully use an 8GB CF card using this method. I currently use a 1GB card in my nB but I'm thinking of getting a 2GB card and partitioning it into 4x4 512MB sections...

Yes, some manufacturers cards are reported as not working - but I don't think it's very many. It may be that some made cards (especially in the early days) that were 5v only. CF is a dual 3.3v/5v standard - and I think Psions need the 3.3v versions. There's a small database of cards on my site that list some cards that were reported as working (or not) by users - but these are mainly smaller card. I suspect that most new cards made today (especialloy by well-know manufacturers) will work.
