I have just upgraded from my 5mx to a Series 7 which has a netBook personality module installed.

The personality module seems to be a custom one developed for One-Ed.com and the machine identifies its self as "My SchoolBook". Everything seems to be standard netbook apart from the "About" screen and the fact that the "Edit Ethernet settings" screen in the control panel has the "Address" and "Routing" tabs disabled.

Before I launch out down the WiFi connection track, is the lack of access to these tabs likely to cause problems in setting up the network? Any idea, anyone?

Hi David,

What you actually have is a variant of a netBook called a 'MalayBook' (known as mBook) - see this site for details: http://hasbrouck.org/netbook/.

It will work fine with WiFi. The reason that the 'Addresses' and 'Routing' tabs are greyed out is because you have the Configuration method set to DHCP. Setting it to manual gives access to these tabs.

Thanks Martin, for the links and info. At first, I was a little dissapointed as I was sold a "netBook" personality module. But it would appear that the only differences are the "My SchoolBook" splash screen and an inability to upgrade the OS image file. But, as Psion will obviously not be making any OS upgrades available, the later seems a mute point.

When I explored the Ethernet options I was originally concerned that the mBook was crippled in that area too. But you were quite right; dissable the DHCP and back they come. Now I feel more confident to splash out on that WiFi card!
